Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra 

Shri. Jishnu Dev Varma, the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, comes from the ancient Manikya dynasty of Tripura, one of India’s Ancient royal lineages. The Manikya rulers were known for their progressive outlook, introducing Tripura’s first written Constitution in 1941, which emphasized civic ideals such as self- help, cooperation, and devotion to the state.

He began his political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1993 and soon emerged as an active organizational leader. As a National Council member representing Tripura and later as General Secretary of the state unit, he played an important role in strengthening the party’s organizational structure.

In the 2018 Assembly elections, Shri. Jishnu Dev Varma contested from the 19 Charilam ST constituency and secured a remarkable victory with 89.33 percent of the total votes cast. Following the end of 25 years of Left Front rule in Tripura, he assumed office as Deputy Chief Minister in 2018. During his tenure, he handled key portfolios including finance, rural development, and power, focusing on project delivery, financial management, and timely implementation.

Among his notable initiatives is Bio Village 2.0, an innovative programme aimed at promoting sustainable rural development through eco-friendly agricultural practices, renewable energy, and livelihood opportunities.

Shri. Varma has also contributed to policy discussions concerning the North- Eastern region, including his role in the North Eastern Council Advisory Committee. He has further served as Convener of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Tripura Chapter.

A multifaceted personality, he is also an accomplished artist, poet, and writer. His creative works include the poetry collections ‘Children of Water Goddess’ and ‘Master of Time’. Appointed Governor of Telangana on 31st July 2024, he took oath as the Governor of Maharashtra on 10th March 2026. His long public career reflects his commitment to governance, development, and cultural heritage.
